sunrise by fire

well, the blood-red sun wasn't so bloody after all. and for anyone who knows me well, it's pretty safe to say that i'm not a morning person. but i was so inspired by the spector of the burgundy orb that rose over the hillside just two days ago (that i only managed to see because i happened to wake up for 30 seconds, looked at, marveled at it for all of 3 seconds and then went promptly back to sleep) that i decided to try to capture it for everyone's viewing pleasure. this, sadly, was the best i could do on tuesday morning at 6:45am (when the sun rose a few moments later, it looked like any other sunrise), but the lack of redness does mean that the air quality is getting slightly better, though everyone is still warned to stay indoors through today and possibly tomorrow. the fires raging in Lake Arrowhead to the east of us are still largely uncontained as they devour the acre upon acre of dead pine growth that did not get thinned enough over the past few years to prevent this tragedy in that community. many of our friends in san diego have been evacuated from their homes, but to date, no one has had any bad news - and we hope that remains the case.
